TDI-80: mainly refers to a mixture containing 80% by mass of 2,4-toluene diisocyanate and 20% by mass of 2,6-toluene diisocyanate. Sometimes also known as nail polish diisocyanate, also known as toluene diisocyanate, methylene phenylene diisocyanate, or methyl phenylene diisocyanate. Nitration of toluene produces dinitrotoluene, which is then reduced to obtain toluene diamine. TDI is obtained by reacting toluene diamine with phosgene. Colorless liquid. There is a pungent odor. The color darkens under sunlight. Sodium hydroxide or tertiary amines can cause polymerization. Reacts with water to produce carbon dioxide. Can be miscible with ethanol (decomposition), ether, acetone, carbon tetrachloride, benzene, chlorobenzene, kerosene, olive oil, and diethylene glycol methyl ether. Toxic. There is a possibility of cancer. It is stimulating.
